UK hub costing £1 billion each year

It is believed that because Heathrow Airport has still not expanded with a third runway, it is having an adverse effect on other UK airports potential earnings.
A recent study out by the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) has found that the country as a whole is losing around £1 billion a year with the north east taking a ten per cent hit. The BCC believe that if the third runway is built it could result in a £30 billion income for the UK over the next 60 years.
The report said that a third runway at Heathrow would increase passenger number as it would reduce delays, frequency of flights would go up and new routes would be introduced so there would be less transfers at other airports in the world.
“The UK is a trading nation. We need to get our business around the world, and this report shows that Heathrow is the key to that. What’s happening at the moment is that the regional airports are closing their links to Heathrow,” said David Frost, director general of the BCC
However the report was missing one major factor within its pages. It did not discuss the implications that a third runway would have on the environment around us.
