A Glasgow man has drowned in the waters off the coast of Venezuela.
Twenty-three-year-old Colin Love died last Thursday while on a South American holiday.
Relatives in Scotland have been informed of his death, and it has been reported that his mother is on route to Venezuela to identify his body.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm the death of a British national swimming off the coast of Venezuela. Next of kin have been informed and consular assistance has been provided.”
Love was a retail shop worker in the Maryhill area. Friends have been posting their condolences on various social networking websites.
On his own Bebo page, the Glasgow man wrote of himself: “I’m decent, loyal, approachable and like to live for the moment. I have lots of energy to burn.”
He added that he was a keen swimmer and liked to keep fit by going to the gym or running every day. According to the profiles, Love last logged in to the site two days before he died.
One of the online tributes to him read: “Everyone is pretty much still in shock. He was a truly nice lad.”
