UK motorists have no idea if they own a low carbon car or not, says a Peugeot survey

UK motorists have limited knowledge when it comes to green transport, according to a survey by Com Res which was commissioned for Peugeot.

The research suggests that 75 per cent of motorists have no idea whether their car is low carbon or not, and almost a quarter of drivers do not know how the Vehicle Excite Duty (VED) system works in terms of emissions.

Peugeot claim that their research suggests that drivers think that the term ‘low carbon’ means a new complex vehicle and alternative fuel. This had lead to the company to call for the government to provide more information in order that motorists are able to make better informed decisions with regard to new technologies.

Managing director of Peugeot UK, Jon Goodman, told MPs last week that research suggests that the only way to effectively reduce carbon emissions was to build a customer base of people in order to benefit from low carbon emissions.

He continued that this achievement would only be possible with a range of solutions which addressed the different needs of motorists.
Peugeot will release the iOn electric car to consumers in the UK along with a collection of micro-hybrid vehicles next year.
