UK resident wins Vauxhall convertible thanks to Europcar

Julie Goodman of Tunbridge Wells has won a Vauxhall Astra twin-top convertible car, after she became the lucky winner of a contest co-sponsored by Europcar and easyJet, Great Britain’s largest low-cost carrier. Goodman had reserved a seat last Christmas on an easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Palma Mallorca, in Spain, for her 2008 summer holiday. At the time, she was automatically entered in an online contest, which offered the lucky winner a prestigious Vauxhall, thanks to the low cost airline’s partnership with Europcar. Thousands of names were entered in the draw over a two month period. Earlier this week, however, it emerged that Goodman was the lucky winner.

Goodman, who was available to speak with journalists, explained how she received a phone call one morning from an easyJet representative, and was informed that her name had been drawn. Goodman could barely believe her luck at first and even spoke about the apparent win to several of her friends, all but convincing herself that it was probably one big joke. Nevertheless, Europcar and easyJet eventually convinced her that the deal was real.

Carl Gothard, Europcar’s partnership manager, took the opportunity to formally thank Vauxhall, which provided the vehicle, and noted that together with easyJet, his firm has “really made Julie’s year.” Gothard also observed that Europcar and easyJet have long enjoyed exceptional business relations and that the two companies formed a “great partnership.” Giovanna Picciano of easyJet’s partnership department echoed these sentiments, noting that the competition was a “wonderful way to mark our relationship with Europcar, who provides quality service and excellent value at 383 fantastic destinations.” Gothard then added that both firms share a strong commitment to leisurely travellers, looking for budget vacations.
