UK set to endure fresh snow blizzards

Blizzards are set to engulf much of the south and middle of Wales as the Met Office issues a warning for Tuesday and Wednesday. The higher areas will suffer the most and the latest weather warnings come just a week after the UK was battered by sleet, snow and freezing conditions. The new warning claims that up to 15cm of snow is likely in level areas and 25cm is likely in hilly regions and this fall will be prone to drift in the strong easterly winds that have also been forecasted.

Transport and power supplies will be affected badly during the bad weather and motorists have been warned not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary. There are plans in place by the Government to keep open all of the major roads when the snow strikes but depending on how sever the storm is will factor in on the effectiveness of the plans. It has been reported that there is enough salt for the roads to last 18 months so there is no chance that salt will run out during this freezing period.

Flights coming in and out of Cardiff Airport are likely to be affected and passengers are warned to check with their airlines before leaving home as to their flight status. Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport suffered from freezing fog conditions on Monday and all inbound flights were diverted to Doncaster and East Midlands airports. Flights were also cancelled and delays ensued. Chepstow Racecourse was given the go-ahead for the Welsh National Race after four inspections for frost.
