UK travel market appears to be stable
Posted on: June 7th, 2008 by Lisa DavidsonDespite fears of a recession causing a slump in the business travel market as well, a recent report says that despite the slowdown, the industry is set to continue on an even pace for the next while. A 7 percent rise in bookings was reported by the Guild of Travel Management. This rise is said to result from the 22 percent rise in hotel bookings in the first three months of the year. Total figures for air travel and car hire bookings was down from last year’s totals, however. Philip Carlisle, the chief exeutive officer from GTMC says, “The British economy is proving to be robust. But we do suspect the economy, and business travel in particular, will enter a period of reduced growth from here on in.” The first quarter figures can be deceiving though he said, as the early falling of the Easter holiday boosted numbers significantly.
