UK wide smoking ban on rental vehicles imposed by national and guy salmon
Posted on: April 6th, 2007 by Martin FellowesThe forthcoming public place smoking ban coming into force in England, Wales and Northern Ireland this summer has prompted National Car Rental and Guy Salmon to come up with a firm policy relating to their vehicle fleets. The policy is to be no smoking at all in any of their vehicles across the whole 45.000 strong fleets.
Ron Santiago, Vice President UK Operations has been quoted as saying, “We feel very strongly that a smoking ban should be applied to all our vehicles to help our customers who are employers comply with the new legislation. By putting No Smoking stickers in all our vehicles we can ensure that they are not at risk from the heavy penalties for non-compliance with the new legislation.”
The new legislation becoming law this summer does not only apply to public places and work places but also to vehicles which are used for business if more persons than just the driver are carried. This not only applies to paid but also unpaid voluntary drivers.
The ban comes into force in England on the 1st July 2007. Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland have bans already in force. No smoking stickers have been placed into the rental fleet cars and vans owned by National and Guy Salmon since March 2007. By the time the ban in England starts on July 1st all the vehicles will have a sticker prominently displayed on the dashboard.
