UK winter back to haunt us

January was on of the worst month on record for disruption due to the bitterly freezing conditions and the snow that just kept coming. In the end it managed to disappear leaving many of us able to get to work again or fly off for that all important holiday. Do not think it is over just yet though as the Met Office has issued a warning that freezing conditions are on their way back.

The Met Office said that some parts of the country could drop to -5C over the next week and snow is forecast for parts of Britain. Yesterday snow started to fall on parts of England and many of us were cursing the great British weather. There were no airport closures this time or roads closed because they were impassable, but the worst is still expected to come.

Forecaster have promised us that the latter half of the week will be the worst with up to four inches of snow predicted for Scotland and the north of England. This could have serious consequences on travel throughout these regions of the UK and the public is being urged to plan well in advance and have alternatives if they get stuck because of the bad weather.

January was the coldest month on record since the same time in 1987 and parts of Scotland experienced snow more than half a metre deep. Temperatures up north were recorded as being as low as -22.3C in some parts, the 9th coldest time in the last 100 years.
