The Hertz Corporation has continued, once again, its commitment to offer the easiest, fastest experiences in the car hire industry by allowing customers to upgrade their rental cars or choose a different rental altogether with their smartphones. This new ability is only available to Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members, who are offered a series of vehicles on their mobile phones. These cars can be hired instead of the vehicle they have reserved.
This new ability has been made available through substantial improvements to Hertz’s Carfirmations and Mobile Gold Alerts service. Carfirmations include emails and mobile texts that notify Gold Plus Rewards members about their hire reservation before they arrive at a rental location. The information in these notifications includes the location of and details about the vehicle hired. Clicking a link in the notification provides members with three options at US airport locations, including upgrading their rental car, choosing a different car and switching to the Deal of the Day. Vehicles with NeverLost GPS are offered where available as well.
Now members can perform a vehicle change with just three screen touches before their time of pick-up and without having to go through a rental agent. To offer new upgrades, Hertz trialled the service in Washington DC and Los Angeles during December, and thousands of people participated. After receiving positive feedback, the company is now introducing Mobile Gold Alert upgrades at the top 50 US airport locations.

Carfirmations give their valued Gold Plus Rewards members the ability to upgrade reserved hires right from their smartphones as soon as they land at airports. This upgrade is one of the many technology enhancements Hertz has made to its services. One of these improvements has been to Hertz Gold Choice, allowing rewards members to choose their own vehicle, which can be changed on the go, and then head for the exit gate. This isn’t offered by any other car hire operator. There have also been enhancements to the e-Return service, which allows customers to drop-off their vehicle and go. Customers receive receipts within an average 30 minutes of dropping off the car. On 78% of Gold Plus Rewards members’ transactions, over two million e-Return receipts have been emailed. In fact, 650,000 are sent every month.
Another service that Hertz has upgraded is its ExpressRent Interactive Kiosk network. These are available at over 100 neighbourhood and airport locations across the US and Europe. It’s the only self-service kiosk available in the car hire industry that’s equipped with a touchscreen and second screen. They allow customers to interact with live customer service agents through video – whether they are making a rental reservation or picking up a hire. More than 8,000 kiosk hire transactions are recorded every week in the US, which has broken a record as of late.
