According to new reports, one family is having a hard time dealing with the fact that US Airways lost something of theirs. However, the airline did not just lose clothing or bags. No, this time it would appear that the airline loss the remains of a deceased O’Grady family member.
According to reports, Mrs. O’Grady’s husband (Brian) died from cancer just last October. This was a very hard thing for the family as a whole to deal with. As a way to Bring Mr. O’Grady back home, his wife chose to fly back to England so that she could scatter his ashes in his hometown of Hull. This was a nice gesture that never got completed.
In a recent interview, O’Grady said that her husband was a great guy. He deserves better than this. He had a hard end to his life, and she just wanted to do what she felt was right. This was made impossible thanks to US Airways.
Apparently, O’Grady said that when she arrived at the airport, the Transportation Security Administration informed her that she would not be allowed to take her husband’s ashes through airport security. In order to bring them on the plane, she would have to go back and check in his ashes with her bags. At this point, O’Grady went back to the US Airways counter to do what the security official had told her. She then put the ashes into her checked luggage, and put a sticker on the suitcase that clearly said Fragile.
Now, from here, everything seemed like it was going fine. The flight went off without a problem, and once she landed she picked up her suitcase, which arrived safely. Later, she drove to her sister-in-law’s home in her husband’s hometown. However, it was once she got to the house and checked her luggage that the problems started.
During the interview O’Gardy said, when she opened her bag, the ashes simply were not there. This was not only shocking, but horrifying as well. The ashes had been unmistakably put in the checked baggage. At this point, the Pennsylvania woman contacted US Airways and informed them of the mishap. Not only that, but her son started to send e-mails to the company. Unfortunately, all of this was done to no avail.
So it has now been months since the ashes were lost, surely they have found them by now, right? Unfortunately, O’Grady said they are no further along today than the day she discovered that the ashes were missing. Everyone is very upset, yet US Airways does nothing but “blow us off”.
US Airways responded by saying that they have not stopped the investigation. Right now they are working with the Transportation Security Administration to find out just what happened to her husband’s ashes. The airline went on to apologize to the O’Grady’s for their loss.
