Virgin America adds meal options to flights

Virgin America has decided to provide passengers with greatly improved meal and snack option on its flights but, as can be expected these days in the aviation industry, all of this will come at a price. While meal items are available free of charge in First Class, those in the main economy cabin will have the option of purchasing snacks, beverages and other light, healthy items, which range from $7 to $9.

Virgin’s approach to serving meals on flights is both unique and unusual within the US air travel industry. Rather than coming by seats with carts, flight attendants are available during any time in the flight to bring a meal or snack to a passenger. All that guests must do is press the so-called “food button” at their seat at any point in the flight, and a member of the cabin crew will and fulfill the order. Passengers may use the touch-screen entertainment system to order various meals, most of which reflect various aspects of Californian cuisine, owing to the carrier’s origins in this state. Breakfast options include yoghurt and granola parfaits, topped with fresh berries, while during lunch hour, passenger may purchase salads, fruit and cheese plates and Monterey beef wraps. Hummus, vegetables and pita breads are sold throughout the day, on all Virgin America flights.
