VisitScotland offers visitors snowy white winter
Posted on: January 3rd, 2008 by Jean AdamsScotland national tourism organization, VisitScotland, is selling this part of the United Kingdom as the ideal place for all those who wish to experience a snowy white winter. The organization has collected together a list of places to see and things to do that showcase the “brilliance of winter white” in Scotland. Some of the country’s “white attractions” include the Calanais Standing Stones, a collection of massive stones dating back over 5,000 years. This landmark historic site is located near the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. This area of Scotland is often sprinkled with a coating of snow during the winter months.
Scotland also has several ski resorts, which are ideal for winter sports enthusiasts. These include slopes along Glencoe Mountain, CairnGorm Mountain, the Glenshee Ski Centre, as well as Nevis Range. Each of these ski slopes and resorts maintains websites and it is well worth checking the snow and weather conditions prior to heading out on a winter trip.
Those who prefer a truly relaxing holiday, ideal for unwinding, can consider renting a self-catering chalet or log cabin. The Lochend Chalets are among the most popular during the winter months, as they are located in a serene rural setting, with an enchanting landscape, yet only one hour away from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
VisitScotland has dedicated an entire section of its website (http://white.visitscotland.com/all-things-white ) to all things white, including not only snow, but also winter flowers, artwork and meals. The site also advertises a range of two-for-one specials, as well as discounts for families traveling with small children, who can often enjoy free meals.
