Watch out for those extra car rental charges
Posted on: September 17th, 2009 by Peter HeadleyFor anyone who has ever rented a car from a rental firm they are fully aware what is needed to get your hands on the keys. Firstly there is a full driving license and then there is a minimum age requirement with a majority going for 25-years-old and some at the tender age of 21. After signing the agreement the last thing you need is a credit card, something that most of us possess.
The credit card we hand over to the clerk is done so with a great amount of trust as with this small piece of plastic, it can have access to sometimes thousand of pounds. There have been many stories over the years of customers who have rented cars abroad to return home and find they have been charged extra for not re-fueling the car when in fact they have, or slight little damage, most cases are easily resolved.
However one lady who rented a car through a familiar rental agent in Manchester had agreed with them to return the car at 18:00. When she did at 17:20 the shop was locked up and no one there. She received instruction to leave the keys in an envelope, she would then receive a invoice later that month. She did, and it was for a lot more, the price of a windscreen was added as the company said when they checked it was broken. It was not until a national newspaper stepped in that they then backtracked and confirmed that one of their employees should have been there to check the car and ended up reimbursing the customer her money back.
