Weather chaos blankets the nation

All types of travel have been severely affected over the past 48 hours across the UK. Heavy snow, icy conditions and poor visibility has led to many journeys taking up to five times as long as they would normally. Airports had to close runways, train services were cancelled and motorists were stuck on roads for hours on end.

As the cold snap spread across much of England a heavy snow fall loomed overhead. British Airways cancelled all of their domestic and European flight after 19:00 last night amid worsening weather conditions. The Eurostar, which has been shut for the past three days, was due to commence services again today. Other train services across the UK were cancelled leaving commuters stranded as they tried in vain to make it home after a day at work.

Many major routes in the Home Counties were at a standstill last night as the conditions were leading to accidents and vehicle breakdowns. The low-cost carrier, Easyjet, has said that have managed to run around 80 per cent of their schedule, although many were delayed and they expected more to be delayed this morning after more snow was predicted.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for most of the country as they expected heavy snow fall last night followed by freezing conditions in the morning making conditions deadly for travel. It seems the bad weather is not just affecting Europe. Flights that are going to and from North America have also been subject to delay as bad weather is affecting conditions.
