Western Nations Evacuating
Posted on: May 10th, 2008 by Frank ToddRome - Currently the western nations are making plans to start evacuating their nationals from Lebanon on Friday May 9, 2008. Right now we have governments that are advising everyone not to travel to Lebanon because it is a country that is currently on the brink of all-out-civil-war.
There was what is called a national (air) bridge that was being set up by Franco Frattini who is Italy’s new foreign minister and this is actually his first full day in office-what a way to start off. Elisabetta Belloni who is head of a crisis unit that can be found in the Italian foreign ministry stated on air in Italy that Franco Frattini had begun to ask for a review of a current evacuation plan, in the end she added that the evacuation plan had not been activated yet.
The death count as of this morning in the area of Lebanon is at a total of eleven and may be more. There are dozens of people that are wounded because of this fight that has broke out. The fight in Lebanon has been going on for three days now and Hezbollah gunment have gained control of part of Muslim territory west of Beirut. The foreign minister of Rome has asked for special attention to be paid on this part of Lebanon. The fighting seems to be the heaviest at Beirut.
The foreign ministry has stated that there are around six hundred Italians that are living in Beirut and this is including about fifty that are in the city centre. There has already been advisories against traveling to parts of Lebanon but now there are advisories out saying not to travel to Lebanon at all because there is no telling where this fight is going to end up.
