By 2010, US Airways will operate Wi-Fi hotspots on their flights after partnering with Aircell and creating the Gogo Inflight Internet service. Passengers with laptops and smartphones as well as other Wi-Fi enabled devices will be able to access their email, instant messenger, get VPN access and the Web.
“Gogo Inflight Internet will allow our customers to make the most of their flying time by catching up on work or relaxing and surfing the Internet. This is an exciting new option for our passengers that we believe will enhance their travel experience,” said Andrew Nocella, senior vice president of marketing and planning.
The service will be used on the US Airways A321 aircraft and only on certain domestic routes as a trial and a map with all of the routes on can be found on the company’s website. The prices for Gogo Inflight have not yet been released but will range somewhere between $5.95 and $12.95 as per Aircells standard prices that depend on the length of the flight and the type of Wi-Fi being used.
Later in the year, passengers who wish to use the service will be able to check availability for their selected flights by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon during the booking process on the airlines webpage.
