Woman Files Lawsuit Against Starwood Hotels and Resorts After Being Attacked by Prostitutes

Starwood Hotels and Resorts LogoIt now appears that a New Jersey woman has recently filed a federal lawsuit against Starwood Hotels and Resorts after prostitutes attacked her in one of its hotel lobbies. Police reports show that the prostitutes mistook the lady as a rival prostitute that was infringing on their turf.

The woman who was attacked was Anna Burgese, age 34. She and her husband Joseph, age 50, frequently travel from their home in New Jersey to Florida. Here, they tend to stay at Miami Beach’s W South Beach Hotel. Starwood Hotels and Resorts is the parent company of this hotel. The couple said that they loved staying at this hotel despite the fact that it is known to have a prostitution issue.

The attorneys that Anna Burgese hired said that the plaintiff was the victim of a completely unprovoked attack. She was suddenly brutally attacked by an unknown number of defendants. This event took place on January 19. The couple will be suing Starwood for premises liability, negligence, civil liability for criminal acts, assault and the loss of consortium. In total, this suit will be worth over $75,000 in damages.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has already released a public statement saying that it is truly sorry for the incident that took place in one of its hotel lobbies. It wants to reassure everyone that the safety of the guests at its hotels is its top priority. It is going to take this situation extremely serious. However, it also said that the claims that multiple people were attacking the guest are incorrect.

According to the lawsuit, Anna Burgese was gripped from behind by an unknown number of prostitutes. After grabbing her, they forced her into a wall made of stone in the hotel’s front lobby head-first. Afterward, she was tackled to the ground and hit by the attackers.

The report goes on to say that the husband, who is on crutches, attempted to fend of the attackers. During this fight, no one from the hotel attempted to separate the fight. At least, this is what the couple remembers, and it has yet to be proven in court.

It was also said that Burgese’s husband started to yell and tell the people of the hotel to detain the attacker. The husband claims that he was originally told that the hotel had identified the attacker and was holding onto her. However, the hotel said later that it was not able to identify her and thus were not able to hold anyone.

After the attack, an ambulance took Mrs Burgese to Mt. Sinai Hospital. The lawsuit goes on to claim that she was seriously wounded both mentally and physically as a result of this attack. The lawsuit also claims that this hotel caters to a friendly environment for prostitutes.

According to the local police department, it has been able to identify one suspect and victim. The suspect is said to have been wearing black pants, a red top and heels. Mrs Burgese is on record as being 5 feet 1 inches and weighing just less than 105 pounds.
