Washington County District Court saw 43-year-old Tammy J. Oberg for charges of theft. She is accused of taking checks written to Courtesy Car Rental and depositing them in her personal account. According to the court complaint, Oberg did this from February to September of 2006.
The owner of the car rental company, Tim Murphy said that he first noticed something odd about his business accounts in October 2006. At that time, he mentioned to Oberg that he would hire an accountant to verify the company’s financial records. Murphy told police that on that very day, Oberg quit her job, leaving a note behind.
In the court complaint, there are 11 checks made out to Courtesy Car Rental which ended up in the personal account of Oberg and her husband, or in the checking account of the couple’s jointly owned business.
If convicted, Oberg faces a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and up to $20,000 in fines.
In a separate case, Oberg was charged with check forgery. She is accused of changing checks to increase the amount payable to her company, Oberg Auto.
