Women wasting money on swimwear
Posted on: August 14th, 2009 by Martin FellowesIt is has been estimated that the females of the species are wasting £1 billion on swim and beach wear which they decide not to wear over insecurity fears.
The poll of 3,000 women discovered that 11 per cent will not go on a summer holiday because of the fear of actually having to wear a bikini or swimming costume. Around £235 million is spent each year on new holiday clothes, but 45per cent of those items will never be worn. Tesco, who compiled the survey, said that 28 per cent of those that went on holiday dreaded most, putting on a costume over any other fears.
Of the women that were surveyed many said that they had special tactics to avoid having to wear beach attire. Around 30 per cent said that they would have a T-shirt over their costume while 12 per cent said they would not go near the pool or beach.
“It’s a shame that, for so many women, poor body image seems to be getting in the way of enjoying a holiday,” said Catherine Matthews, head of nutrition for Tescodiets.com.
The survey has been released after Snappy Snaps, a photo developing lab said, they had seen a sharp increase in the number of holidaymakers that wanted their holidays snaps airbrushed so they appeared better when showing friends and family.
