For many years going to a theme park has been the highlight of many children’s, and adults’ summer. In the UK there are so many to choose from depending on where you live. You can head to Alton Towers if you are around the middle England area, Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park for the southerners, but many years ago there was this one choice: the Dreamland Amusement Park in Margate was the place to head to. It was originally opened in 1920 and every summer it would attract thousands of visitors to Kent shores looking for a little excitement. Unfortunately many of the rides had to be dismantled during the 1990s for safety reasons, and the park eventually closed in 2003 leaving the UK without its first theme park.

Good news is on the horizon for the people of England, as a little bit of nostalgia could well be heading b,ack to southern England. The Prince’s Regeneration Trust is at the forefront of trying to re-open the park as a tourist attraction and collect many other vintage rides from around the world to be displayed in the park. So far they have been granted £3.7 million in funding from the UK government. They have secured some great rides already including the oldest wooden rollercoaster in the UK, which is also the fourth oldest in the world. The Heritage Lottery Fund has also contributed to the cause at the beginning of the year so Dreamland is well on her away to being the number one attraction in Kent again.
