Zipcar announces new partnership with Pacific University

Zipcar LogoIt has just recently been revealed that Pacific University and Zipcar have launched a new partnership together. Zipcar is currently the world leading car sharing program, and now it’s going to bring its services to the Pacific University campus. In short, this will bring convenient transportation options to a number of students. Best of all, these options will be made available at affordable prices. Zipcar prides itself on having transportation options available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

According to reports from Zipcar, students at Pacific University will only have to pay a $25 membership fee to use the service. This fee will have to be paid annually, but this will give them access to cars starting at prices as low as $7.50 an hour. It is even possible to rent a car for the whole day for only $69. Of course, students will get more than just a car when they rent from Zipcar. They will also be receiving insurance, reserved parking spots and petrol to drive up to 180 miles a day. Zipcar strives to make it easy for students to rent cars for just an hour or for multiple days in a row.

To start with, Zipcar will be offering the students at Pacific University two cars. This will include a Ford Focus and the Toyota Prius. Since Zipcar is “self-service”, students can actually reserve and access these cars 24 hours a day. Members of this service gain access to the cars using their smartphones, like an iPhone or Android device.Students are encouraged to try out the Zipcarmobile application. This is an app that users can download to their phone to make reservations. They can also use this app to unlock or lock the car and even honk the horn if they are having trouble locating the car.

The director of the Center for a Sustainable Society at Pacific University, John Hayes, said that Zipcar is a company that promotes car sharing. This is something that Pacific University can get behind. This encourages students to actually ride together, and this saves on fossil fuels. This goes double when they are driving a car that gets up to 50 miles per gallon, like the Prius. The hope of the university is to get a number of students not to bring their cars to the campus. Instead, the school is hoping that they will use Zipcar. This should free up parking at the school, help the planet and even save the students money.

Michael Serafino, who is the general manager for Zipcar University, said that they are very excited to be bringing this service to the students of Pacific University. Zipcar hopes to provide students, and even staff, a very sustainable form of transportation. The company hopes to provide them with freedom at a price that they can afford. Of course, Zipcar will not just benefit the students and staff members of Pacific University. They will also benefit the environment as well.
