Zipcar begin operations in Michigan
Posted on: September 24th, 2007 by Dave AndersonZipcar, one of the largest car sharing businesses in the United States, has set up its vehicle rental services at the University of Michigan. The company is already present in some 40 US cities and on a number of American college campuses, where it offers cars for hourly rentals, to both students and staff members alike. Zipcar now counts Ann Arbour, Michigan, as one of its locations, where hourly rentals costs $8 and include all additional fees, as well as a tank of gasoline. In order to rent a car, however, it is necessary to sign up for a yearly membership, which includes the payment of an annual fee amounting to $35 for students and staff members, and $50 for those not affiliated with the university. Thus far, over 300 people have signed up for a Zipcar membership.
Renting a Zipcar at the University of Michigan is a quick and easy process. Members can make all reservations online and cars can be booked as little as 15 minutes before the requested pick-up time. Once this is complete, they simply go to one of several area on campus marked with a Zipcar sign, and find their rental car parked and ready to be driven, with a special card key. Whenever they need to fill up the car with gasoline, clients can simply pay with a gas card located inside the vehicle. Zipcar’s cars are all relatively new and comfortable for up to four people. One of the most popular makes at the University of Michigan is the Mazda 3.
Anyone over 18 years of age may rent a car at the University of Michigan, allowing newly registered freshmen to also enjoy the benefits offered by car sharing. The company predicts that up to 40% of students living on campus will become regular users of Zipcar rentals.
