Zipcar offers new services for business clients
Posted on: October 4th, 2007 by Garry RobertsonAfter enticing university students and ordinary urbanites from a range of social and economic backgrounds to rent cars on an hourly basis in order to run errands and attend special events, Zipcar is now trying to appeal to businesses and corporate clients as well. Zipcar has set up a new program called Z2B, (Zipcar for Business) which aims to convince small and medium-sized companies in the US that rather than transporting their employees around town in taxis, offering transportation reimbursements and instead of maintaining company cars, they should join the rapidly expanding world of car sharing instead, in order to save significant amounts of money. According to Zipcar, car sharing allows companies to much more effectively control transportation costs, as there is no longer any need for a company to lease a fleet of vehicles and to ask staff members to project and coordinate the precise number of cars needed at any given time.
Zipcar’s Z2B program is available in a number of states, including New York, New Jersey, Seattle, DC, Virginia, Maryland and
California. In general. the Z2B plan is ideal for those companies that operate in major urban centers, such as NYC, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Chicago, or
San Francisco. The only non-US locations where Zipcar’s business program is currently available is Toronto and
Vancouver.
A number of plans are available for business clients. Hourly rentals cost $8.50, while it is also possible to rent cars for complete business days, for $51. Twenty-four hour rentals cost $66. The majority of these cars are of the Mazda Murphy variety.
