Zipcar teams up with New Jersey transit firm
Posted on: April 22nd, 2008 by Kate PooleZipcar has decided to team up with New Jersey’s public transportation company, NJ Transit, in order to offer commuters more options when it comes to travelling regionally and between urban centers. Those who regularly ride the Metro-North railway network, which runs through Orange and Rockland counties, will get to enjoy the transit corporation’s partnership with Zipcar the most. As part of this deal, passengers will now be able to rent Zipcar vehicles from a total of five different NJ Transit stations, throughout the state.
Zipcar introduced its program in the form of a pilot project and in order to raise awareness among transit riders, residents will be able to compete for a weekend road trip sweepstakes. The lucky winner will get to enjoy free hotel accommodation over the course of a weekend, as well as a complimentary breakfast each morning. Participants can also rest assured that they will not be put up in a ragtag old motel; rather, the winner will get to enjoy luxury accommodation, at a local bed & breakfast.
Zipcar and NJ Transit are together trying to change the way people travel. Instead of simply taking the train, or only renting a car, the two firms want to encourage commuters to consider taking a combination of the two. As such, clients who use the train to commute from one location to another, will be able to hop into a rental car upon their arrival, in order to continue their journey. This is believed to be especially useful for those regular NJ Transit travelers who must reach a destination that falls outside of the railway’s network.
